According
to Van Buren -
“the proportions of the whole, and the curving lines at the top, are copied from a painting in yellow on black, showing a structure similar in design [to VII.7.16 aviary] though presumably differing in function, in I.iv.25, on the wall to the right as one enters the great triclinium which opens at the north-east corner of the peristyle.”
