I.8.19 Pompeii. September 2005. Cistern at lower level, with peristyle of I.8.2 above. According to Jashemski, part of the floor on the north, east and west portico of the peristyle of I.8.2, was destroyed by bombing in 1943.  A gutter at the edge of the garden collected rain water which was stored in the large cistern under the peristyle. The water appeared to have been used in the adjacent dye-shop (I.8.19) at the rear.
