VII.12.20 Pompeii. December 2005. Entrance doorway. This doorway had a bell.
The top floor was reached by a staircase. This led to a corridor which gave access to five more small rooms.
These were in addition to the five rooms below in the Lupanare at VII.12.18 and VII.12.19.

The other doorways overlooking Vicolo del Balcone Pensile are on the left.
According to Sogliano –
“As for the balcony, I had only its two ends reconstructed (fig. I, a, a), because the height of these was marked with certainty by the traces of ancient plaster on the outside of the walls. I did not close the remaining part of the balcony, because, although there was no longer any doubt as to its height, the number and position of the windows that were to illuminate it remained uncertain, especially as the communication doorways between the balcony itself and the chambers, due to the singular distribution given to the rooms, do not keep a regular distance between them, and are seen very close together towards the ends, leaving a large section of wall towards the middle with no openings at all. Given this configuration, various hypotheses are equally possible, but two are enough to make the restoration uncertain. In such uncertainty, I have limited the restoration to just the two ends, which I have had covered with tiles of a similar size to the ancient ones, which seen from below appear to be the protruding part of the roof that was meant to cover the entire building.”
