IX.7.18 Pompeii. May 2005. Entrance, looking east across the shop towards the area of a rear room.
According to Mau, the rear room (room e in IX.7.19) was a cubiculum.
He also stated that he thought originally in ancient times the shop, at the front of the photo, would have been closed from the street.
The shop is also described as room “d” in IX.7.19.
The doorsteps of both doorways, IX.7.18 and IX.7.19 were missing when excavated.
It was not known what items were sold in the shop whose walls were covered with white stucco.
Above the entrance, Mau could see a red band which was the remains of a decoration from the 1st style.

According to Eschebach, on the left would have been the stairs to the upper floor.
A doorway in the rear room would have led into the atrium of IX.7.19.
